When doing backups of Windows Server 2008 machines with MS DPM 2007- the system state backup always fails. To make this work, a 2-way approach is needed – install the MS DPM 2007 Feature Pack (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949779) and make sure the Windows backup Feature Role is installed on the Windows 2008 server you want to backup
Not all combinations of VirtualCenter and ESX(i) Server versions are supported and not all of these highlighted features are available unless you are using VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 4 with ESX(i) Server 3.5 Update 4.
