NINA warnt Sie deutschlandweit und wenn Sie dies wünschen standortbezogen vor Gefahren, wie z. B. Unwettern, Hochwasser und anderen sogenannten Großschadenslagen – und bietet auch grundlegende Informationen und Notfalltipps im Bereich Bevölkerungsschutz an. NINA bezieht Daten hauptsächlich vom sogenannten Modularen Warnsystem (MoWaS) vom Bund und allen Bundesländern für Warnungen des Zivil- und Katastrophenschutzes eingesetzt wird. Darüber hinaus enthält die App zusätzlich aktuelle Informationen, z. B. vom Deutschen Wetterdienst (DWD) sowie aktuelle Pegelstände der Wasser- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes (WSV) – NINA ist damit ein weiterer wichtiger Kanal für die Warnung der Bevölkerung in Deutschland
