Linux block-device multipathing (MPIO) is provided by a new component called the Device-mapper. Linux multipathing provides IO failover and automatic fail back to DataCore LUNs. A multipathed device may be used as a raw disk, which may be partitioned in the conventional way or used by the new Logical Volume Manager
