Enhanced condensation can be acheived through novel surface coatings that promote drop-wise condensation. Research indicated that drop-wise condensation is theoretically 10x more efficient that regular film-wise condensation. This is because reduction of film-wise condensation exposes the condensing surface which allows for droplet nucleation on the surface rather than building up a thin film of water – yielding a much higher heat transfer rate. This means that the coating can greatly enhance energy efficiency of condensation processes.
